Te Awamutu for Young Kids

Whether you’re visiting from out of town or are a local looking for ideas for kids activities, there are lots of things to do with kids in Te Awamutu. Here is a compilation of kids activities in Te Awamutu and surrounding areas.

Nature

Feeling like getting outside? There are lots of options within a few kms of Te Awamutu to explore the ideas.

  • Lake Ngaroto Walk – 90 mins round trip – FREE

  • Yarndleys Bush Walk – 20 mins round trip – FREE

  • Maungatautari Sanctuary Mountain – FREE (Norther Enclosure at Hicks Road) and Ticketed Options (FAMILY Pass for 2 Adults & up to 3 Children is $57.00). The ticketed area of the sanctuary is accessible to most (suitable for pushchairs) and there are plenty of seats along the way.

Playgrounds

  • Pioneer Park at the Te Awamutu Events Centre. Has a great pump track for smaller kids bikes, a gated playground for toddlers and a few larger obstacles including a flying fox for older children.   • Alphra Lavender Farm – Learn about how they grow lavender, the oil distillation process, and how they make a range of products.  Tours cost $10 per person
