Orienteering Waikato invites you to compete at the 2015 Waikato Schools Orienteering Championships. The
event is designed for students to have a go at orienteering, for students with experience to be competitive.
The 2015 Waikato Schools event is open to all schools ‐primary, intermediate (year 7 & 8), and secondary.
Senior: Born in 1998 or earlier
Intermediate: Born in 1999 or 2000
Junior: Born in 2001 or later
Primary School (years 1 – 6)
There will be separate competitions for boys and girls

WHAT DO THE COLOURS MEAN?
WHITE ‐Basic navigation with a map, following tracks, fences & streams to control points.
YELLOW ‐Navigation involves following tracks, fences & streams, however control points are sited off the route
ORANGE ‐Cross‐country navigation requiring basic knowledge of contours to locate control points
RED ‐Difficult navigation requiring good knowledge of contours.
Competitors may run in higher age grades if desired, but only within the same competition class, i.e.
primary/intermediate class cannot run in the secondary competition. All grades will have separate boys and
girls competitions. Girls may not run in boys’ grades and vice versa.
This event is using the Sportident electronic timing system. All competitors are required to carry a small
plastic stick called an SI‐card ‐these are available for hire.

‘Rangitukia”‐a colour orienteering map, on which courses will be pre‐marked.
Approximately 30min drive from Central Hamilton
From Hamilton drive on SH23 towards Raglan. From Whatawhata, continue on SH23, 1km across Waipa
River. Turn left onto Te Pahu Rd. Travel 15.9km down Te Pahu Rd. Turn right into Corcoran Road. Travel
for 1.3Km and turn left into the parking area. From Pirongia head north on State Highway 39.After 4.8km
on to TePahu Road. Continue for 5.6km, turn left into Corcoran Road. Travel for 1.3Km and turn left into
the parking area

Sunday 10 May. Competitors can start from 11:00am – 1:00pm.
CASUAL AND CLUB MEMBERS
Parents, supporters and other club members – courses will be available. (usual club member/nonmember
course fees apply).
$5 entry & $1 SI‐card hire, payment methods below. Replacement cost for a lost SI card is $55.
